Vattenfall’s Carolina Escudero Concha wins Rising Star Award

Vattenfall’s Carolina Escudero Concha has been selected from over 1000 individuals as a winner of the UK Rising Star awards.

The awards focus on the UK’s female talent that represent the leaders and role models of tomorrow.

Carolina won the award in the Energy & Utilities sector. The winners were selected based on over 35,000 public votes of support for nominees from 115 countries.

Just 12% of all engineers in the UK are women but Vattenfall has a strong diversity and inclusion policy and is keen to support female talent whenever possible.

The entire team at Vattenfall is extremely proud of Carolina who said:

I’m very pleased to be recognised as a 'Rising Star' in the Energy and Utilities sector. Having trained in electrical engineering and worked in the energy sector for 10 years it feels great to be recognised as a role model! Working at Vattenfall to help clients in the transport sector improve their energy infrastructure, and reduce carbon emissions, allows me to utilise my engineering experience whilst encouraging the transition to a zero carbon economy and I hope my award encourages other women to apply their talents to similar missions.

Stewart Dawson, Managing Director of Vattenfall Network Solutions, added:

Carolina is a key member of our team and a great engineer. We are very proud to have her and even more proud that she has been named as a Rising Star. We work to improve the reliability of high voltage networks for clients across the UK and Carolina’s knowledge of electrical networks, combined with engineering and communication skills make her a real asset to the team. Engineering is not a man’s world anymore – if you have engineering skills and want to help reduce carbon emissions, we want to hear from you.

Vanessa Vallely OBE, Managing Director of WeAreTheCity who ran the awards, said:

I am so proud that for the sixth year running WeAreTheCity has been able to shine a light on the achievements of so many remarkable women across the UK. I am ecstatic to welcome our 2020 winners to the WeAreTheCity family and to watch them progress in to the senior positions they so rightly deserve.

Congratulations Carolina!
