Vattenfall IDNO Partners with Integrated Utility Services for Third Project to Support MGL Demolition
Vattenfall IDNO is pleased to announce the signing of a new contract with Independent Connections Provider Integrated Utility Services (IUS) for a critical infrastructure upgrade at MGL Group’s Newburn Asphalt Plant & Depot in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This marks the third collaboration between Vattenfall IDNO and IUS, further strengthening their partnership in delivering sustainable energy solutions.
MGL Group provides a comprehensive range of services to reshape the built environment. These include civil engineering, demolition, earthworks, road surfacing, asphalt production, quarrying, aggregates and recycling.
The company is strategically investing in expanded and electrified operations to facilitate the development of its soil-washing facility. This approach aligns with a circular economy model and contributes significantly to net zero and sustainability objectives.
The contract focuses on upgrading the site's electrical capacity from 800kVa to approximately 2000kVa. Installing a new, more efficient transformer as part of the upgrade will enhance energy efficiency and significantly reduce the carbon footprint and operating costs.
Stewart Dawson, Managing Director for Vattenfall IDNO, commented:
This project highlights the role of collaboration in achieving ambitious sustainability goals. By supporting MGL Group in their journey toward net zero, and adopting the essential network infrastructure for their new grid connection, we’re proud to be playing a part in building a cleaner, greener future.
Tony Askins, Business Development Manager for IUS, said:
Partnering with Vattenfall to deliver this essential infrastructure as an independent connections provider solidifies our strong relationship as we share their commitment to sustainable energy solutions. This philosophy is demonstrated by the MGL Demolition project, which supports their net-zero and sustainability ambitions.
Mark Davison, Chief Executive of MGL Group, added:
We are excited to partner with Vattenfall IDNO and IUS on this critical infrastructure upgrade. This project marks a significant milestone in our commitment to sustainability and achieving our net zero goals. The enhanced electrical capacity will enable us to expand our operations, reduce our carbon footprint, and improve energy efficiency. We look forward to continuing our collaboration to drive sustainable innovation.
This development underlines Vattenfall IDNO's commitment to working with a number of ICP partners, and businesses across multiple industry sectors to deliver the essential electrical infrastructure to support the electrification of UK businesses and net zero goals.
